OUR COMMUNITY

It is important to note that, like any Catholic governance model, the Emmaus Community Team is not a decision making body. The Emmaus Community Team is a vital sounding board to inform decision making in our school. This responsibility in Catholic schools rests with the Principal.

Our monthly Emmaus Community Team meetings are open to all interested parents, carers and community members. Thus, all in the Emmaus community who wish to attend these meetings have a sense of all that is taking place in school life.

2024 EMMAUS COMMUNITY TEAM MEMBERS:-

Chairperson/s:  Shell Corcoran

Secretary: Rachel Allan

Within the Emmaus Community Team are three Crews. The leaders of each of these Crews will be announced soon.

  • Sustainability Crew

  • School Life Crew

  • Community Engagement Crew

The Emmaus Community Team gathers on the second Tuesday of each month and we do so in the knowledge that there are brief reports from each of the crews, a school finance report, Principal’s reports, a Child Safety report, along with a variety of other general business matters.

In listening to one another we are informed of all that is taking place in school life whilst clarifying future directions needing to be taken.

There is no power for change greater than that of a community discovering what it cares about.
— Margaret Wheatley

Our Emmaus Community Team aims to be a mechanism that allows for genuine consultation within our community whilst also meeting requirements with system authorities of a “School Board / Advisory Council” model of parent engagement.

It is vitally important that parents are given a voice in the future directions of their childrenʼs schools and we at Emmaus are no exception. The Emmaus Community Team endeavours to allow for parents and members of the Emmaus community to feel a genuine sense of ownership in their school.  The purpose of the Emmaus Community Team is to:

  • engage parents in the life of the school

  • provide an avenue for parent voice to be shared and listened to

  • support the school in meeting its goals and celebrate success

  • ensure good governance in the decision making process – advice and feedback is sought

  • enable a better knowledge and understanding of the work of the wider school community in educating children

  • provide an avenue for parents to commit to helping where possible
